The best audiobooks of 2026
What is actually worth listening to right now, including the series everyone is mid-way through.

A "best of the year" page is only useful if it is honest about what it is. This is not a list of everything published in 2026 — no site can listen to everything — and it is not a prediction. It is the recent and current titles we think are worth your time, with the dates of the audio editions shown so you can see what is actually new.
What this year looks like
Three things characterize the current moment in audiobooks, and they are all visible in this list:
- Romantasy is still the commercial center. Onyx Storm is the third Empyrean book and the series is still the thing most people are mid-way through. Blood over Bright Haven is the standalone alternative for anyone tired of waiting for sequels.
- Long series are getting longer. A Parade of Horribles is the eighth Dungeon Crawler Carl and Wind and Truth is the fifth Stormlight volume. Both are enormous and both assume you have done the reading.
- Literary fiction is having a strong run. James retells Huckleberry Finn from Jim's point of view and does something genuinely new with a book everyone thinks they know.

If you are starting a series this year
Two of these are deep in long series and two are standalones, which matters more than the quality difference. Onyx Storm needs two previous books; Wind and Truth needs four and over a hundred and fifty hours. If you want something excellent that starts and ends this year, James and Blood over Bright Haven are the two to pick.
